The LSO and its Chorus are on cracking form, and the soloists are as good as you will get. Ian Bostridge and Simon Keenlyside bring all their experience to bear on the passage
where two enemy soldiers are reconciled in death, but are equally vivid when jointly recounting the story of Abraham and Isaac. Slovenian soprano Sabina Cvilak sings with a
freshness and edge that make you sit up. No one should be without the composer’s recording, also with the LSO, but half a century later, Noseda’s dramatic, pulsating account
represents another landmark.

…In her recent performances of Britten’s War Requiem, she received rave reviews, such as from Classical Source who described her voice as “floating effortlessly above [the chorus] as she sang”, and the New York Times who said that “Cvilak brought a lustrous soprano voice and guileless sincerity to her singing.” Indeed, it was the dual qualities of an effortless, floating upper register and sincere, idiomatic characterisation which defined her performance…
…Allerseelen, was gracefully performed by Cvilak, with the beautiful melody stunningly sung. Cvilak’s performance was truly moving, and without a doubt one of the best interpretations of this song I have heard. InZueignung, Cvilak gave a commanding performance, with a stunning fortissimo A5 towards the end. Her beautiful phrasing in Morgen was a delight to hear, her voice seeming to float effortlessly on the breath…

Slovenian soprano Sabina Cvilak gave a highly acclaimed Rosenblatt Recital on 7 December. Her interpretation of songs by lesser-known Slovenian composers and more popular works by Strauss and Puccini was greatly appreciated by the audience at St John’s, Smith Square.

“Cvilak had no issues filling the space with her beautiful and clearly projected voice. She is a really interesting case, a singer with a very lyrical voice but with an almost chilly timbre. Her approach was lyrical and very tender. Her unforced delivery was endearing and convincing. Can’t imagine a single person in the audience didn’t enjoy the recital. Looking forward to hopefully seeing her in fully staged opera in the coming years and what other roles she will tackle…..”
